Providing specialist advisory and advocacy services

Barristers and Associates
Grey House Chambers was set up in early 2024 by a small number of barristers and associates who specialise in public and criminal law.
Bringing together significant expertise under one roof, Grey House Barristers are instructed in public inquiries both as inquiry counsel and counsel for core participants.
Our associates are regularly instructed by UK government agencies on large scale disclosure exercises.
All barristers at Grey House Chambers are independent, sole practitioners, who carry professional indemnity insurance for the legal services work they undertake.
JOANNA MORRISSEY
Barrister
Year of Call: 1999
AREA OF SPECIALISM
Jo began practising in 1999, and for the first 15 years concentrated almost exclusively on crime work. Those years allowed her to develop into a versatile advocate, with broad experience of prosecuting and defending before the criminal courts at all levels.
PUBLIC INQUIRIES
Jo's practice focuses on public inquiries and legal professional privilege. She has substantial experience advising on the exercise of inquiry powers, particularly in relation to restriction order applications and sensitive material handling.
She is currently instructed as second junior counsel to the Undercover Policing Inquiry, led by David Barr KC, and represents the Royal Military Police as a core participant in the Independent Inquiry Relating to Afghanistan.

LEGAL PROFESSIONAL PRIVILEGE
Jo has been instructed by UK government agencies for over a decade. These include instructions from the SFO, FCA, and HMRC. She is regularly instructed as independent counsel on matters involving Legal Professional Privilege (LPP), particularly in the context of complex criminal and regulatory investigations. Her work involves attending premises during execution of search warrants to adjudicate privilege claims on site. She regularly leads large-scale privilege reviews, is adept at assessing keyword search outputs, and is fully conversant with industry-standard review platforms.
LANDLORD AND TENANT
Jo has experience advising and acting in a wide range of landlord and tenant disputes, including issues arising at the end of tenancy agreements such as deposit deductions, disrepair claims, unlawful retention, and enforcement of tenancy rights. She represents both landlords and tenants and is familiar with the common tactics and procedural missteps that can arise in residential lettings. Her approach is pragmatic, robust, and focused on resolution where possible — but unafraid of escalation where required.
Ruth Wingrove
Ruth started off her legal career over 25 years ago in family law, specialising in child care working for local authorities and running her own practise. In recent years she has become an expert in her field in disclosure for the Serious Fraud Office and the FCA. She is regularly instructed by both these organisations leading complicated disclosure excerises.
